An Introduction to Japanese Society Class

From the title we can imagine what the class is,  I mean what do we learn in there. most of students who took the class are foreign student, so far  only 2 Japanese students could be seen. The teacher is kind of strick, but the content of the class was pretty cool. During  taking  this class there are alot of information about Japanese Culture,  from getting to know about A-JET Programme, and how to apply to be A-JET Programme ‘s English Insructure in Japan, you can see the attached link below:
http://www.jetprogramme.org/ and an introduction of Buddhist in Japan by a Monk, until visiting to one of a Girls’ High School. The good things I got from each  meeting at class is those interesting topics  were brought by some guests who gave some awsome informations attractively. Not enough by being a nice student who just sit down and listen the explanation of the guests, but we  actively  were able to give some questions to them. In other meeting we also had some chance to  Discusse  about some issues in Japan which are related to preparation of an earth quake, dealing with some weird people around us by forming  different discussion group of students where we can share the ideas, feeling and perspective. Because this class is in English, So we can practice conversation  in English directly.
Mr. Keno Miura, The Buddhist Monk

Subjectively, Among the topics above, the most topic that caught my interest is when we visited  to one of a Girls’ High School  where the location is very near from Shenshu Park, 10  minutes from Akita Station by walking. Because from the visiting we can get a lot of  informations about some student’s extracurricuar activities  of High School, including  listening their stories of  how  they manage their time  to study and their time to come along with their extracurricular activities.  Specially, the extracurricular activity  club that we had a chance to see is Akita’s Traditional dance and folk song Club. Telling about the activity we had there, First of all  we had very attractive performance of traditional dance and folk song which is performed by the students, and then we had an experience to touch and feel the music intruments (Shamisen, Japanese drum), even we  could interact in dancing and singing was guided by  girl Students. They  demonstrated the dance and tought us how to do  the most simple dance movement “on do Pa-pa song” together with all Foreign and Japanese Students in the class. The last was we had the question-Aswer section with them.

As a foreign student it was quite interesting moment to get involved in dancing and singing directly,  interact  to gilrs’ Students. One a student even started the dance since she was a little kid because she is raised in a family who preserve Akita Culture. Surprisingly other student testified that she just started playing shamisen ever since 2 or 3 years ago but she could play shamisen perfectly just like a profesional Shamisen Player. In the perspective of  middle school’s educator’s,  it was an excellent change to get to know  how the teacher  guide  the student to pursue the activity after school seriously and keep giving  the motivation.  visiting the Girls’s high school  feels like diving into the ocean of experience where I could see, touch, feel, evaluate the other side of education in Japan. Definitely, through that experience now I can  make comparison about  the extracurricular activities  in  in Japan and in my country, Indonesia. Then  hopefully in the future as a teacher I can apply that  kind of  the method  in Indonesia.
With High School  Students makes me feel 17 again

Last,  during attending this class, we can  taste different kind of class activities. But the moment when we had the opportunity to visit Girls’school is the most  fantastic moment that we had ever. Concretely, among all discussion themes like High School’s extracurricular activities and education, Japanese culture which we had at the class, almost completely have been  discussed  in one activity, that is  Visiting a Girls’ High School. Hopefuly for the next semester of the same class, other students can have the same opportunity like this  more or less.
